Hello!
Does anyone else had problems with overheated muffler ?
My muffler on a Commander 800 E-Tec ( 2014 ) gets sometimes so hot it turns red.
It happens in two kind of situations:
1: Driving on a ice where is only 0,5cm snow,
just enough to keep the water temp of the engine on 4 or 5 steps (optimal).
Driving about 80 kmh and feels like I dont need to press the accelerator at all to keep that speed.
Then the "motor over heating, rev limited" warning is shown and overheat light burns but water temp is only 4 or 5 steps. Then I notice the muffler is yellow-red.
2: Driving in deep wet snow almost full throttle for about 5 min.
Engine suddenly lacks power and sometimes missfires (I mean it burns / explodes something in exhaust, big bang noise can be heard).
When I stop, "engine over heat, rev limit" and then notice muffler is yellow-red. I waited until the muffler is back to black and continue driving. After a couple of min. almost full throttle driving (7000-8000 rpm) I noticed the muffler is yellow-red again, but I continue driving because no warning light is burning. After a while engine looses the power again and then I stop and warning light lights up again. Water temp is all the time at step 4.
Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem ?
Or is it only too heavy weather conditions ?
I noticed that oil consumption is quite high..
Might it get too much oil and burns it in exhaust pipe and muffler ?
Or too much fuel and it burns in exhaust
( but fuel consumption was normal for that kind of snow conditions I think, little bit over 40 l/100km ) ?

Try to check fault codes by pressing the Mode (M) switch and hold it pressed simultaneously as you switch high/low beam on headlight back and forward several times.
It might be a problem with the Exhaust Thermocouple Module for the probe in the tuned pipe or muffler.

Thanks Jukkas_Lasse. But no active fault codes. I tried that. The sled is going to BRP service when I have time to take it there. I will write here if they find something from the ECU that might be the problem.

Sounds like it may be something wrong with the ignition or fuel inlet timing.
The muffler cant be that warm unless its fuel in it...

Seems like the muffler is broken. There is something loose and broken inside the muffler. Going to get new one during next week. A guy from factory said that muffler should not change color even when hot, if its getting yellow red there is something wrong with the machine. I just hope this did not made any harm to the motor...
